Our purpose does not lie in a movement to create professional musicians, but to create persons of a beautiful mind and fine ability. We engage in human education through music so that children will grow with beautiful and high sensitivity, through an unparalleled, uniquely musical approach.
— Dr. Shinichi Suzuki

The Kansas City Suzuki Academy was founded by Alyssa Beckmann and her husband Matt Beckmann as a natural growth and extension of their private Suzuki home studios in KC. Our KCSA faculty members hold degrees from many of the top music schools in the country, and are dedicated, passionate educators. Director Alyssa Beckmann began playing an instrument at the age of three in her mother's Suzuki school, the Central Texas String Academy. After completing graduate school in Boston, Alyssa taught for ten years in her brother and sister-in-law's Suzuki program, the Greenwich Suzuki Academy, where she was coordinator and head of the Upper Strings.

Through her own childhood and teaching experience, Alyssa has grown to love the community and excellence that emerges from a full Suzuki program. Students thrive by interacting with one another in group classes and solo and group performances throughout the year. Faculty members are continually inspired through interactions with their motivated colleagues and a broad base of students to teach and learn from. In a school environment, parents truly get to the enjoy watching their child grow and learn a musical instrument because their child is motivated to play and practice! Former Suzuki students fill out many of the top orchestras and university teaching positions across the country, but a Suzuki program does not intend to produce professional musicians. Rather, our goal is to develop a well-rounded, compassionate child, who will have a love of listening to music and a passion for playing an instrument throughout their life!
